Charlie Halford is a Principal Research Engineer in the BBC’s Research & Development department, where he works as part of the Advisory Team, which does longer term technology and media industry trend forecasting and analysis and produces technical strategy recommendations for the rest of the BBC. As part of this, he leads the BBC’s work on “Project Origin”, a technical standard co-founded and developed by the BBC that seeks to address the dangers of disinformation on the internet by providing secure media provenance.
His background is in software engineering and architecture, where he has spent a significant proportion of his career working with content management and publishing technologies. At the BBC, he has been lucky enough to combine that expertise with a love for citizen empowerment and public service journalism.
